We recently launched a new video series called One Minute Crypto. Check it out! http://oneminutecrypto.com
In this video, we walk through the basic steps to create and secure an Electrum bitcoin wallet on your computer. Electrum is easy-to-use and fast software that allows you to store bitcoin directly on your device, without trusting any third party.
hi mate wonder if you can help me as i am seeing in my electrum that message on my receive option underneath is a window call "Requests " below that is a entry showing this " date 23.3.18, Description: BTCP, Amount: 16.1245, Status: Paid, can you tell me what is this all about. I am confused. Please.
Chronos Crypto Its majestic :) So for long term hodling purposes, is it sufficient to just store the recovery seed on paper? Ive been told to consider setting up a second offline machine and a hardware wallet etc, but the keeping the recovery seed seems secure enough to me. Is this like the same as a paper wallet? Sorry for noob qs
Turning it off won't help you if you reconnect it later, because any malware can just wait for a connection. Yes, it's more risky to have internet access. A more secure solution would be to use a computer that will never connect to the internet again. For some people, that's worth the inconvenience.
I have some litecoin in electrum ltc that i created using multisig 2 of 3 and I need help creating the other wallet 1 of 3 so I can send the ltc to a cold storage. I can't seem to create the other wallet. is there a way you can help?
Very Very Good. You chose the easiest and one of the most secure methods with added security tips! I've avoided it too long and crypto vendors offer great discounts, and I learned how to make my first above ground retailer purchase in one hour! I'm subbed, keep us up to date on important changes,. YTMNG!
Hi Chronos Crypto, I just purchased some Unobtanium wallet in cryptopia and send the coins to the unobtanium wallet and believe me I checked the receiving address over and over, however my coins never arrived, I will really appreciate any suggestions, thank you
I haven't worked with Unobtanium before. It sounds difficult to obtain! :) Jokes aside, you can probably look at a block explorer to see if the transaction went through. If it did, it's a problem with your wallet; otherwise, contact Cryptopia support. Good luck! http://lmgtfy.com/?q=unobtanium+block+explorer
Hi Chronos, I did exactly as you mentioned in the video. My screen shows "not connected" on the bottom left (where the "balance" should be). I already sent a bunch of XVG's to the address (under the "receive" tab). It still hasn't shown. It has been 2 days. Am I doing something wrong?
Hello there, poster of the video (Chronos Crypto). I just wanted to say that you would have to be very intelligent to be able to type as fast as you do, especially being that fast to visually copy text and type it in as you did. Most people can't type half as fast as you do. You are very smart (brighter than the average person). I envy you, and I wish I had your mind. Well, Happy Holidays, and let the New Year be a prosperous one.
Thanks for the comment, Bobby. I am probably more intelligent than the average person, but then again, most people would say that about themselves! :) Hope the video was useful to you. Have a great 2018 as well.
This piece of shit wont go online no matter what I do. I posted the blockchain address on servers, and it still wont fucking work. Why is this so complicated to startup. What is the fucking point of not streamlining it.
I do want to thank you for that information on the wallet because I was very lost there. As you may tell I am new with this all and there are saying and I quote "you don't need to know anything about bitcoin" yeah right! now I just need a good understanding on how to buy crypto. token and for that I am sure I will be looking forward for your videos
hello, can you help with my electrum wallet not wanting to connect? I have tried everything I could find online about what it says to do; Some have suggested that I try unchecking the auto connect and using a different server and I have tried that several times and nothing changes. Any help is greatly appreciated
I’m not sure, but it could be your Windows firewall or local network configuration. If you have the ability to try it from another location, or another computer, that could help narrow down the problem. Good luck!
hey chronos! I was wondering about this issue that I'm having. for some reason I can't send Verge coins to my exchange account. it only gives me a transaction ID etc. but there is no history of the withdrawal(I have also check my exchange account). the second problem I am having with electrum is that I seem to cannot connect to the server most of the time. any ideas?
I like the video, and I love the keyboard. Where'd you get it? I love the old clackitty keyboards. Anyway, I watched another video where it said to do all this we should be doing it on a Linux box, or on Windows logged out of administrator, using Veracrypt to encrypt everything (I use that for other stuff)and so forth. It made it seem like it's so unsafe to do all this that you have to be super vigilant to not get hacked. I've been following bitcoin for a while, but held back buying it till recently. So, that's a little daunting. I'm going to get the Trezor at some point. Any suggestions for altcoins like Ripple?
You can always be a little more crazy and be a little more secure, but nothing is perfectly safe. Even if you take every precaution to prevent hackers from stealing your bitcoin, you can still die of cancer!
Hi Chronos, thanks for the video
I have one question. In the Address tab I can see several addresses. Can I use any of those addresses to receive payments? Would it be safe to use them alternately? Or doesn't it matter?
That can be more secure, yes. However, if you bring your computer back online later, then anything you thwarted by being offline earlier would regain its power to ruin your life after it's connected again.
I recently downloaded latest version of electrum. Whenever I try to open my wallet I have to write my password to open it. Is it possible to removed this step? I still want to write password when I send bitcoins from my wallet but not to just open it.
Good question. Electrum shows a new receiving address each time you use one. You can use the new one each time, which helps to keep payers from peeking at your address on the blockchain and seeing your old transaction history. Your wallet has an unlimited number of addresses, so I don't think you'll run out.
If your transaction history shows the coin arriving in the wallet, and then being sent out, then somebody sent it. If it wasn't you, then it's possible you have a virus. If the transaction history doesn't show the coin ever arriving, then check with the sender to make sure they sent the coin to the proper address. You can also use a block explorer such as https://blockchain.info to search for the address and see if the coin was sent. Hope this helps!
One user had to fiddle with the settings on their anti-virus software and the Windows Firewall to get the connection to work. You have to white list "electrum.exe" or something similar on your antivirus/firewall.
This makes it sound so easy. How about an explanation of transaction fees? I used dynamic fee, and when I sent it, it said it was a low fee AFTER I sent the transaction. I tried three times to increase the fee--now I don't see that option, but I can tell the fee is still too low. BTC transfer has been working now about 14 hours, and based on the link someone provided below, it will never transfer. How do I increase the fee to get my BTC transfered now that it does not give me the option? If I cannot increase the fee, will by transaction eventually be rejected, or will my BTC be stuck in limbo forever? Thanks.
Hi sir, i think every OS is slight different. For years I couldn't figure out how to relaunch the GUI part of electrum wallet. I had to Copy & Paste rename electrum.exe and placed it into User\"computer name" which is the user folder or aka "my computer". Then I had to type "run electrum" and it open up and load the GUI part asking me for the password.
I just started trading today. Bought a part of a bitcoin on GDAX now that my money posted and sent it to Electrum. I have no confirmation email from GDAX and my bitcoin isn't showing on gdax or electrum. I've logged in and out of both multiple times. I have an email in to GDAX support. Any ideas?
The bitcoin network can get a bit backlogged at times, so waiting might solve the problem. You can also look at a block explorer like https://blockchain.info to search for your receiving address and see if a transaction is pending into your Electrum wallet. I think you'll be fine. Good luck!
Electrum doesn't support UNO coin, so it sounds like you have a similar-looking wallet that was specially designed for UNO. You'll probably need to reach out to their developers and community solve that issue. Good luck!
If you use "Restore a wallet" on the second computer, and use the same seed words, then the wallet is in both places. Spending the coin from either computer would also move it from the other. Pretty cool, eh?
WTF am i the only one to have a problem with 13 words seed??? i explaine one year ago i've made a wallet that gave me a 13 words seed now im trying to restore it but it ask me for 12 words seed...how can i do??
The miners are interested in finding a nonce which will create a hash with certain characteristics. Lastly, they have to find a random value that they included in the header, which makes the computed hash over that header a value below a particular target. In other words, they do not have to agree to change the protocol. Though there are a few gold diggers attempting to fill their pockets and certain projects that aren`t viable and shouldn`t be encouraged in any way. For users running a complete node, it is a fairly painless procedure to upgrade the software to the newest version. The process of locating a new block to extend the blockchain is known as mining. Proof-of-Work systems utilize cryptographic hashing algorithms to create the action of mining a block a complicated computation. Our software is totally incompatible with altcoins. Changes and modifications to how that it works need to be approved by consensus and every CPU gets a vote. To start with, it`s essential to realize that hardware wallet users control entirely their private keys. Whether you`re bullish or bearish on Bitcoin Gold, you ought not lose your coins as a result of careless mistakes! On the 1 hand, it may result in making a coin that solves all the pending issues. There`s no currency or digital asset named Bitcoin Core. Bitcoin Cash increases the range of transactions that may be processed per block. You could send any quantity of money, any place in the Earth, almost at no cost. You`ve made some great money already on the market, but you want more. For a wealthy individual, BTC`s price premium may be viewed as a plus. For someone without lots of money, BCH`s low price may look like a great deal for Bitcoin. If you have some concerns about the worth of Bitcoin after all forks, you need to be ready for a drop. The distinction is that not all of these suffer the chain split. The primary problem is Bitcoin imposes a hard limit on the magnitude of a block, the location where transaction information becomes stored. The end result is many straightforward wallets, called SPV wallets and very commonly found on your phone, will be quite confused about which chain is Bitcoin. In Bitcoin, the most important reason is known as the network effect.
