Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general are volatile. It’s going to be this way until a wider adoption of cryptos is achieved. Volatility is the result of a small market that is easily influenced by the movements of buyers and sellers. As the market grows, prices stabilize and everything gets boring. In the meantime, there are some cryptos that are designed to be the refuge from the storm. The key for pegged or tethered cryptocurrencies is the reserves that the crypto has of the other, more stable currency. So for USDT, also known as Tether for example, on their website you can see how much USD they have in their reserves. The amount in their reserves should closely match the amount of tokens they have in circulation. This is to ensure liquidity for their user base and therefore also ensure the value of their crypto. For the sake of transparency they show their reserves on their website, however, whether this number is realistic or not is yet to be confirmed. But it seems at the very least they aren’t employing the tactics of fractional reserve banking. In the past, Tether did experience illiquidity when the banks that they work with obstructed their ability to access fiat currency. This led to Tether dropping from their standard $1 per coin value down to around $0.90. A lack of liquidity isn’t the only thing that can damage the price of pegged cryptos. The thing about the free market is that if it is pushing for a certain price and a pegged crypto is meant to resist this price action, sooner or later the peg will fail and it can result in dramatic devaluations. There are tokens that exist that are pegged in a way that doesn’t require them to have reserves of the actual fiat, or commodity. I’m talking specifically about BitUSD, the pegged cryptocurrency available on the Bitshares exchange. BitUSD uses a pegging system unique to Bitshares that is also somewhat of a trademark for things built by Dan Larimer in that they are complicated to understand, yet they work.

Best Alternative to USDT? Steem Dollars or SBD!
For a cryptocurrency pegged to one USD, what is a better option than using Tether or USDT? Steem Dollars or SBD seems to be ideal as explained at https://steem.io/steem-bluepaper.pdf because SBD always convert to $1 worth of Steem providing liquid value based on a transparent blockchain instead of whatever is used to back USDT. Tether is the USD pegged cryptocurrency which recently just lost $30 million of customer funds to a wallet hack. Everything is fine on Bitfinex and with Tether as long as buying demand is greater than selling demand and prices go up. The problems come when everyone tries to cash out at once either after the next court ruling or news story or hack. It seems likely that anyone with Tether may find the price go double or even triple that of a real USD with a trusted exchange meaning traders on Bittrex and Poloniex may lose millions trying to cash out a worthless Tether. Alternatively, a big Bitcoin selling wave might bottom out an exchange like Bitfinex which may have much less fiat currency on hand and may struggle to make the withdrawals to the customers. As customers start sharing stories of not being able to pull out money, the USD exchange on Bitfinex may become worthless as everyone tries to pull out and everyone with USD tries to buy Bitcoin or Ethereum moving the USD price on Bitfinex potentially into the hundreds of thousands as customers realize a USD on Bitfinex is not really worth a USD in real life. My prediction is the prices on Bitfinex to USD will go crazy with Bitcoin maybe going over $1 million USD for 1 BTC as buyers realize a USD on Bitfinex is not equal to a real USD or even many any USD. All of the other coins on Bitfinex are likely to crash with it as traders try to pull out before others and sell into fiat as fast as possible. This may lead to as much as a 90% drop in the price of Bitcoin, Ethereum, EOS, IOTA, and USDT which are some of the top cryptocurrencies traded on Bitfinex. Love, Jerry Banfield PS: The only cryptocurrency I invest in is Steem because of what you can see on my blog at https://steemit.com/@jerrybanfield

The MASSIVE Tether Ticking Time BOMB
Tether is a cryptocurrency designed to be pegged to the USD in a 1-to-1 ratio. Doubts about whether or not this is true have been floating around for months now, but Tether mostly left the news cycle since the $30m hack back in November. However, it's back in full force now as their relationship with their auditor recently dissolved. Is this the end for Tether? Steemit Post: https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@cryptovestor/the-massive-tether-ticking-time-bomb Nobody knows, and the reality is that establishing a time-line of such an event is near impossible. However, what we do know is that Tether has been increasing the rate at which they print money. Most of the crypto community is cautious about it even if they use it, suggestings its public perception isn't the highest. They've have many issues with banking - What do you think the odds are that serious individuals and businesses have increasing demand for Tether which matches the rate at which they are being created? Even if Tether ISN'T a scam though, they have massive regulatory risk. The primary function of Tether is to bypass regulations and capital controls that exchanges face with using the real USD or other fiat currencies. As they grow larger and larger, Tether will paint a bigger and bigger target on their heads and eventually the US government or another government will likely take action against them. However, I still suspect Tether is a scam either way as it looks and behaves like one. When Tether retailiates against the accusations made against them by Bitfinexed, they sound like children rather than professionals (a characteristic I have seen as particularly common in the crypto space). The dissolvement of their relationship with their auditor suggests the auditor found details that Tether wasn't comfortable with revealing. If it looks like a duck, acts like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck. It is highly probable Tether is a scam and if it is well interconnected with Bitfinex as many suspect, then this poses a huge systemic and systematic risk to cryptocurrencies as a whole. Keep a close eye and be cautious. Gold Backed Cryptocurrency To Change The World Of Finance! - AnthemGold with Anthem Blanchard
Josh Sigurdson talks with Anthem Blanchard of AnthemVault and AnthemGold about the new gold backed cryptocurrency set to make the rounds this year! AnthemGold is a gold backed cryptocurrency verified by the Hercules intergalactic value chain protocol revolutionizing the supply chain. The gold is protected by a class 3 vaulting system. As Anthem says you are guaranteed your gold bringing wealth insurance to a somewhat speculative market like decentralized blockchain. It is listed by BnkToTheFuture and its value is dependent on the value of gold. Worried about holding a large amount of gold? Well this method is far safer and well verified. As the AnthemGold website explains, gold bars are assayed electromagnetically with a calibrated spectrometer. Extensive lab testing occurs. The vault tech then uploads the lab results to HERC. When we look at the present state of the blockchain community, there are a lot of terrible cryptocurrencies and quite a few great ones. The number one thing making the market so valuable overall is the innovation. The market must adapt for the future and grow. With AnthemGold we see the combination of two of history's greatest monetary revolutions. Gold and cryptocurrency. This has been attempted before but never successfully and Anthem is confident that this will be successful, especially with the incredible team he has on board to push this to the next level. He's currently travelling the world bringing more and more people in to the mix and AnthemGold is now supported by Edge. Anthem's family history shows the dedication for more than half a century to keeping gold in the hands of the people and standing up for freedom against tyrants. You can find more info on AnthemGold at their website! Stay tuned for more from WAM at Anarchapulco! Lock BTC Profits But Stay In Crypto (Tether vs NuBits vs SBD vs bitUSD)
https://steemit.com/@brianphobos Earn $10 Of Free Bitcoin - https://www.coinbase.com/join/529e26dcd2421b03c4000252 When you are trading in the cryto world it can make sense to get back to a $1 peg but a lot of times you don't want to leave the crypto world either for tax reasons or to maintain a quicker reentry back to the crypto of your choice. In this video I reviewed USDT or Tether, NuBits, the Steem Backed Dollar (SBD), and bitUSD from the BitShares platform. These are all very interesting and I wanted to give you my thoughts on what ones make the most sense to use to seek shelter if there are pullbacks or you want to lock in some profits and rest easy.

Whether or not that’s true, they were at least one of the first and still a major player that is pursuing this big idea. https://blog.blockchain.com/tag/blockstream/ Let’s break down what a sidechain is. In laymen’s terms, sidechains run parallel to a main blockchain, like bitcoin’s blockchain for example. They use a two-way peg, meaning you can move your bitcoin from the main bitcoin blockchain, to the sidechain, and then back again. This is done by essentially locking away your bitcoin from the main blockchain while it is in use on the sidechain, and they are then released once you prove they are no longer being used on the sidechain. The first side chain is called Elements Alpha. It’s a tesnet where developers can utilize the open source code to contribute to the project and discover ways to improve the bitcoin blockchain. Other projects for side chain implementations include the likes of Rootstock. The developers at Rootstock, or RSK have announced at consensus 2017 the release of Ginger, which is their open sourced testnet. Ginger is aimed at providing more functionality to the Bitcoin Network like smart contracts, increased scalability and a new revenue stream for miners. http://media.rsk.co/rsk-announces-the-global-release-of-ginger-the-open-source-testnet/ https://www.cryptocompare.com/coins/guides/what-is-rootstock/ As always in crypto land, it’s not always sunshine and roses, there are still some kinks to work out with side chains until they can be considered ideal. One of the arguable weak points of sidechains is the fact that federations are a select few who ultimately call the shots and determine if/when the coins you use between the main blockchain and the sidechain are locked up and released. This is a centralization of the whole system, and whoever is behind the sidechain will determine who is included in its federation. Trusting a dozen or so individuals to authorize all transactions can be seen as a major security flaw. One other weak point is the fact that sidechains will need it’s own miners. This could pose a problem when considering that these miners will need to be monetarily incentivized. One way to fix this is by implementing merge mining. T his is the process of allowing two different crypto currencies based on the same algorithm to be mined simultaneously. It allows low hash powered crypto currencies to increase the hashing power behind their network by bootstrapping onto more popular crypto currencies. https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/guides/what-is-merged-mining-bitcoin-namecoin-litecoin-dogecoin/ I’m sure that there are Bitcoin maximalists out there who see this development of side chains for Bitcoin as a nail in the coffin for Ethereum. Because sidechains have the potential to provide Bitcoin with the ability to integrate smart contracts, this does seem to take an edge away from Ethereum in terms of services provided. However, I will always believe in the robust development team behind Ethereum and their ability to work together to constantly produce innovative new projects. So don’t say goodnight to Ethereum. Instead, I’d like you to consider how side chains can open the door for different cryptocurrencies to work together and take advantage of their strengths.

Cryptocurrency Will Have Ultimate Purchasing Power When Dollar Collapses
When the dollar is devalued, Bitcoin will become the standard constant for currency. It will replace fiat currency (the dollar, Euro, etc.) as what all currencies are hinged to. Right now everything is pegged to the dollar (e.g. markets, commodoties, etc.), but soon that will change people will start to trust decentralized networks vs. central banks. Cryptocurreny (bitcoin) will become the equalizing monetary standard that does not and cannot inflate. Enjoy!

This pegged crypto in particular, you may have noticed, has been surrounded by doubt of its true holdings of USD, the fiat currency to which it claims to be backed. Pegged cryptocurrencies do have the allure of being a type of oasis when the crypto markets get really volatile, but it’s important to keep in mind that you are relying on the rate-pegging mechanism of that cryptocurrency to remain stable and the trustworthiness of the company behind that pegged crypto. If that fails, let’s just say you will be experiencing volatility despite your best efforts to avoid it. Ok now that I’ve got that off my chest, let’s take a closer look at the idea behind DigixDAO and all that this project has accomplished so far and what it’s got planned for the future. The price stabilization and long standing reputation of gold as a store of value seems perfectly matched with cryptocurrencies, although I’m sure there are plenty of precious metal purists out there who would love to argue this, but considering those aspects of gold and matching it with the transferability and easy, secure storage that blockchain tech and cryptocurrencies provide, it’s easy to understand why the trend for gold-backed cryptocurrencies is growing. So expect more of these types of ICOs popping up in 2018 as well. Here’s how DigixDAO is different: It is a decentralized autonomous organization Meaning it is an organization in which all decisions are made through code or the votes of members of the organization. Within Digix if you own DGD and participate in the community by either creating proposals that are aimed towards the benefit and adoption of Digix or by voting to accept or reject others proposals, you will be rewarded. At the moment, there is only the DGD token available, this is the token used to participate within the DigixDAO. In the not too distant future, there will be a second token implemented called DGX which will be the Digix gold tokens. Each of these tokens will be backed by 1 gram of gold which is secured in their Safehouse vaults. Their Proof of Asset protocol will be used to ensure the transparent and immutable proof that the tokens are indeed representing 1 gram of gold each. You’ll be able to trade these for physical gold. A minimum of 100 DGX tokens will grant you 100grams of gold.

Bitcoin Q&A: Decentralised exchanges and counterparty risk
How will markets transition from centralised exchanges to decentralised exchanges (LocalBitcoins, cash ATMs, Bisq, cross-chain atomic swaps)? Could fiat-pegged cryptocurrencies ease the process of fiat-to-crypto exchanges? How could the counterparty risk introduced by custodial parties like Tether affect the security of Bitcoin and the cryptocurrency ecosystem at large? Komodo: The Underdog of Atomic Swaps (And PRIVACY)

Let’s give a quick rundown of some features of this platform. It has the privacy features similar to zcash- meaning zkSNARKS, and it will be adding the Lightning Network capabilities of Bitcoin. They will also offer white label solutions for blockchains and ICOs. While Litecoin, Decred and Zcash have been in the news lately talking about their advancements with atomic swaps, Komodo has been quietly plugging away. So let’s check out their decentralized exchange that has atomic swaps as its main focus. BarterDEX is the decentralized exchange for the Komodo Platform and it is the first to supply users with order matching for atomic swaps. Right now their atomic swaps are limited to Bitcoin compatible coins While before you would have needed to download the entire blockchain of the coins you’d want to trade via atomic swaps on BarterDEX, they’ve now made the improvement so that you can now conduct an atomic swap using Electrum servers. These are hosted nodes so you will not need to download the entire blockchain of each coin that is being traded. The only trick now is that there will need to be an Electrum server for the coins being traded in order for you to bypass the need of downloading the entire blockchain which takes a lot of time and space. Komodo has taken the responsibility of hosting Electrum servers for the most popularly traded coins so these coins can be more easily traded. If a coin wants to be a part of this exchange they can host their own Electrum server and contact the Komodo team to be added to BarterDEX. As of right now their wallet that you would use to do atomic swaps on this exchange will only work via command line. So it’s true that right now this is limited to experienced users of crypto and computer programming. Let’s take a better look at what else Komodo can do. Komodo has a system called Jumblr, which essentially combines traditional coin mixing techniques like uniform coin amounts, and sending all transactions at once, they are also working towards obfuscation of location tracking of your IP address used to send or receive a transaction. So in other words Komodo is putting in work to achieve much more complete anonymity. The future for Komodo looks like white label solutions for blockchains, ICOs, decentralized exchanges and they’re also looking into pegged cryptocurrencies.

BTC News - Japan’s Largest Bank to Launch Cryptocurrency Exchange
Japan’s Largest Bank to Launch Cryptocurrency ExchangeAs bitcoin trading becomes the new mainstream in Japan, leading financial firms are stepping in to offer services to preserve their market share. MUFG, the largest bank in the country, is now planning to launch its own exchange, a pegged cryptocurrency and bitcoin segregated accounts for clients of other exchanges. Also Read: MUFG Exchange and Pegged Coin Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc. (NYSE:MTU), the fourth largest bank in the world, plans to launch its own cryptocurrency exchange this financial year. According tofrom the country, MUFG has already notified the Financial Services Agency (JFSA) on the decision to launch an exchange. The bank is known to be working on issuing its own cryptocurrency. The plan as it seems now is that by controlling the exchange where people can trade this MUFG Coin, the bank could suppress drastic fluctuations in its price so it can be used for shopping, settlements and remittances stably. The idea is that the new cryptocurrency will be kept pegged at around JP¥1, but not fixed in advanced so as to bypass regulations regarding issuing and transmitting such private money in Japan. Needles to say, while MUFG only envisions its coin used to make stable transactions in Japan, once the cryptocurrency will be out in the wild global traders can use it for other uses as well. One interesting application is for it to be used in trading pairs on non-fiat exchanges instead of USTD, backed by the largest bank in Japan instead of Tether. Bitcoin Segregated Accounts The bank is reportedly working on another service for Japanese cryptocurrency traders, MUFJ Trust – will keep client holdings in accounts which can link to exchanges but without sending the money to their control. Similar to how segregated accounts are used to protect forex traders, this can safeguard client funds at the bank in case the trading company is hacked or goes bankrupt. The service will also monitor accounts for suspicious activity and uncommon transactions, which could get flagged for inspection instead of being processed. The service, which will be available just for bitcoin at first, is expected to launch in April 2018 or as soon as the JFSA recognizes bitcoin as an asset that can be placed in a trust. This will be the first ever trust arrangement for cryptocurrencies, according to its application for patent protection. Enjoying the protection of MUFJ Trust’s would cost a fee, but “customers will feel peace of mind knowing that a trust bank is managing their assets,”CEO Noriyuki Hirosue of Tokyo-based exchange Bitbank. D1 Coin. Cryptocurrency backed by investment grade diamonds
Cryptocurrencies and the underlying blockchain technology are increasingly popular amongst individuals, financial institutions and governments, but many still think of cryptocurrencies as objects of speculation. Being subject to potentially huge price corrections, most cryptocurrencies are a poor store of value and means of exchange, giving rise to a need for a more secure alternative. D1 Coin is designed to address this need, combining the convenience of digital currencies with the stability of traditional fiat currencies and real assets. D1 Coin is a diamond-backed cryptocurrency, with each D1 coin pegged to the value of a fraction of an authentic, natural diamond, as determined by the proprietary pricing algorithm, D1 Matrix. Diamonds are an ideal asset backing for a coin since they are rare, taking a billion years to develop, have several millennia of history as a recognized store of value, and are small and therefore easily stored and transported

We Need To Talk About Tether And Bitfinex
Today Bloomberg is reporting that Bitfinex has been subpoenaed by U.S. regulators. This is all regarding Tether, which is claimed to be pegged to the U.S. Dollar. Apparently this subpoena was actually issued on December 6th, but we're just hearing about it today. This news has caused a lot of panic, as speculation has been building for months that Tether may be a house of cards waiting to fall. How concerned about this should we be? Bitcoin Crashing - Should You Use Stablecoins?
What are stablecoins? Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies that are pegged (attached) in price to a fiat currency (USD) at all times during the existence of the coin. How do they achieve this? A. Centralized IOUs (Tether, Digix, TrueUSD) - The fiat currency is held in a physical location (some bank, somewhere). B. Collateral Backed (Bitshares BitUSD, Maker DAI, Havven Nomins) - You need to lock up X amount (usually 1.5 to 2x) of crypto to generate 1x stable coin. C. Seigniorage shares (Nubits, Basecoin) - Whether through algorithms or market demand, using another crypto (Basecoin Shares and Bonds, or NuShares), to expand or contract the supply of the stable coin. Risks with Stablecoins - They lose their peg - Counterparty risk (centralized stablecoins) - Undercollaterized (collateral backed stablecoins) - death spirals (seigniorage shares stablecoins) Should people use stablecoins? My opinion (not financial advice) is if you don’t care about the price of Bitcoin, whether it is at $1,000 or $50,000, you shouldn’t use stable coins. But if you are a swing trader, it is an absolute MUST as you want to lock in your gains. You don’t want to make a 30% gain on an alt-coin trade only to have Bitcoin drop 25% or more on you. If you are a day trader, it doesn’t matter too much because your only mission is to accumulate Bitcoins (or Satoshis if you are working on a budget). List of exchanges and stable coins trade pairs: Bancor Network - DAI Binance - Tether Bitfinex - Tether (but just use fiat as they support multiple) Bittrex - Nubits, Tether, True USD Cryptopia - Tether HitBTC - Tether Huobi - Tether IDEX - DAI Paradex - DAI Radar Relay - DAI Some more counterpoints to using stablecoins: Preston Byrne - Stablecoins are doomed to fail Bottom line: All stablecoins have risks, until we have an exchange that supports direct trade pairs for newer alt-coins (EOS/USD, ADA/EUR), they are our best options for avoiding Bitcoin volatility. It’s easy to get greedy in this space where you can see big percentage profits in relatively short amounts of time, but if you ever lost sight of this fact, bear markets are great for handing you a dose of reality. What I mean by this is that the most popular investment advice ever given is to never invest what you can’t afford to lose. During a bull market when everything is going great and your seeing your investment increase this advice tends to take a backseat. What we all need to keep in mind is that every market, no matter if its, stocks, real estate or cryptocurrency, they all have bear markets. Unless you are an expert trader, earning an income through trades in a bear market can be awfully tricky. So if you’re deciding to hang tight and ride this out, here are some great ways to help you prepare for the next bull market. * Take your time to deeply research projects to find potentially undervalued ones that could see a lot of appreciation when the bull market returns. Get to know the team and the community, you’ll finally have the time to see how the sentiment is during a down time and how committed the team is to driving their project forward despite a boost in price. * At this point, if you are still able to partake in ICOs, and you’re hungry to see any kind of positive ROI, then ICOs could be an option for you. If you do choose this route, please keep in mind the lock up period between the ICO and when the coins are listed on exchanges, as this will affect your own liquidity. Also, you’ll need to ACT FAST once they are listed on an exchange to see the best profit. * You should also definitely remember that now is a good time to buy into coins you couldn’t afford to before. The best case scenario is that you took some profits near the top of the market and you now can take advantage of this down trend. If you weren’t able to take any profits but you’d like to move your investments around to get some promising coins, just remember to consider the fact that the coins you’re trading have depreciated as well. The trick is to identify which coins have had less percentage drops and which coins have the potential for higher percentage gains once the market picks up again. * If you’re considering selling now to buy back as the dip progresses, be wary of not buying back at a higher price. I’m only saying this for those who can be really unemotional when it comes to trading. I truly believe in researching different projects and being able to identify ones that have the best long term potential, this makes hodling much easier and bear markets much less apocalyptic. * It’s also a great time to go back and recognize the signs of “the top”. Bull markets only last so long, this could help you in the future when we inevitably see this cycle again. So go back and see what the mainstream media was saying around December of 2017, did they suddenly change from anti cryptocurrency to now giving tutorials on how to buy Ripple? Did Jamie Dimon completely change his tune from calling Bitcoin a fraud to now looking into having his own uses for blockchain tech? For those of you who are new to this realm of investing, these are invaluable insights to have for the future. * How to hedge your investments: look at “stable coins” like Tether, DigixDAO, when they release their DGX coins, or the offerings on Bitshares like BitUSD, but please keep in mind that even these pegged cryptocurrencies will indeed be feeling the tension of the dropping prices. If the tension is too much like a rubber band, they can very easily snap and you’ll be left with a loss either way. If you don’t believe me, just take a look at Nubits.

ICO Review: ETHLend (LEND) - Democratizing Lending
ETHLend aims to enable decentralized lending globally by allowing crypto to crypto borrowing. Full report by Crush Crypto: https://crushcrypto.com/analysis-of-ethlend/ Download the free ICO Guide which contains 6 simple steps for analyzing any ICOs to find the winning projects: https://crushcrypto.com/youtube/ Note: This is not a paid review. We do not offer promotional or advertising services. Our content is based on our own research, analysis and personal opinion. _______________________________________ What does the company/project do? EthLend aims to enable decentralized lending globally by allowing crypto to crypto borrowing. All borrowings will be secured by cryptocurrency, including ENS domains, as collateral. Everything is done through smart contracts so that the whole process can be done in a trustless and transparent fashion. Interest rates, premium and conditions are solely decided by the participants. Sample use cases include: - Participating in ICOs by borrowing Ether using a user’s existing cryptocurrency holding. - Margin trading by increasing leverage. - Financing for blockchain startups for ICO marketing by pledging ICO tokens. - Unleashing the Ether locked in ENS domains. EthLend allows crypto-pegged (return the same amount of cryptocurrency) and fiat-pegged (price of cryptocurrency in fiat is used for the loan value) loans depending on the users’ needs. _______________________________________ What are the tokens used for and how can token holders make money? here are a few uses for LEND tokens: Discount on fees on the platform: LEND token holders will receive 25% reduction on platform fees (loan request fee and loan funding fee) compared to paying with ETH. Rewarding active lenders and borrowers with airdrops: ETHLend will use 20% of the decentralized application fees to purchase LEND tokens from the market and airdrop the tokens to all the lenders and borrowers on ETHLend, based on the previous period’s volume. Certain functions are accessible only with LEND tokens: ETHLend will provide functions that are only accessible with the use of LEND tokens. These featured functions will include featured loan listings and email marketing campaign for new loan requests. Rewarding Introducers: ETHLend will purchase additional amount of LEND tokens to reward lenders and borrowers or third parties who introduce new participants on to the decentralized lending platform. As (1) LEND tokens are used to perform different actions and to receive discounted fees, and (2) 20% of the fees generated by the platform will be used to purchase LEND tokens on the market, the more usage and volume the platform has, the more valuable LEND tokens should be. _______________________________________ Opportunities - The alpha platform is live and users have been borrowing and lending on the platform already. This shows the team’s execution capability. -The biggest use case in the beginning is probably for margin trading. With the amount of speculation in crypto investing and the growing popularity of cryptocurrency, EthLend is in a good position to gain traction. - We believe there will be tokenization of different assets (real estate, shares, intellectual property, etc.) in the future, which makes the use cases of EthLend much broader than it is now. For example, users will be able to refinance their properties on EthLend if those assets can be tokenized. - For cryptocurrency holders, they can earn additional income by lending their holdings out. The default risk is mitigated as long as the loan is fully collateralized. _______________________________________ Concerns - The platform only deals with crypto-to-crypto borrowings, so it is not as convenient for people who want a loan in fiat compared to other blockchain projects that provide crypto-to-fiat or fiat-to-fiat lending. However, it also means that there will be less regulation restrictions for ETHLend compared to other projects. - The team members are mostly on the younger side and do not seem to have relevant experience in the lending space. - The ICO is only available through the Eidoo platform, so users will need to download and fund the Eidoo wallet before contributing to the ICO. _______________________________________ Disclaimer The information in this video is for educational purposes only and is not investment advice. EP74: Why Bitspark.io Switched from Bitcoin to Bitshares for Global Remittance
In the “legacy banking industry”, moving money around the world sucks. It’s slow, expensive and overly encumbered with regulations and difficulties gaining access to global currencies. As a foreigner, how are you going to get access to the Thai baht or Iraqi dinari? You aren’t. This presents a huge problem. Either you can’t send money home to your family in the local currency they need or you have to pay ridiculous conversion and FOREX fees along the way. ***If you only have ~5min, start at the 13 minute mark to hear how Bitshares and Smart Coins are specifically being used with Bitspark.io and why they are moving away from Bitcoin. Bitspark.io CEO George Harrap created a company to help solve this huge pain, but initially envisioned Bitcoin being the cryptocurrency of choice. At the time, it was fast and nearly free to send. Funding accounts were much easier than sending a bank wire across the world. Also, bitcoin was used as an “intermediate” currency meaning that they would buy bitcoin with one currency and sell bitcoin for another currency. This was much easier than running a full FOREX trading desk. Recently, George decided to experiment with another cryptocurrency, Bitshares. What’s interesting is the ability to create “smart coins” or “pegged cryptocurrencies” within the Bitshares Decentralized Exchange (DEX) to provided price exposure to some of these difficult to obtain currencies like the Thai baht or Vietnam dong. This essentially removes the need for Bitspark.io to open and maintain bank accounts in these exotic currencies and deal with the overhead of maintaining a bank account for each. Needless to say, cryptocurrencies are completely disrupting the financial system. We have just cracked the ice on how that’s going to reshape the desperate international banking system. Thanks again for tuning in and Keep Building Freedom! -Ashe Contact Info: George Harrap Twitter: @george_harrap Bitspark.io Website: Email: [email protected] Twitter: @BitsparkBTC Podcast Resources: Bitshares Decentralized Exchange: https://bitshares.org/ How are Smart Coins created on the Bitshares Dex: https://bitshares.org/technology/price-stable-cryptocurrencies/ PLEASE LEAVE A REVIEW ON YOUR FAVORITE PLATFORM! Tether, Bitcoin, Ardorgate, AEUR
Welcome to NeoCash NewsCast number 002 bringing you the latest cryptocurrency news from around the world wide web. Please be sure to click the subscribe button and be one of the first to receive cutting-edge news. The crypto markets are continuing to decline as the bitcoin tether bubble is deflated. Also, In a related story I’m going to talk about Ardorgate. The top story is still the dramatic fall of cryptocurrency prices. Is it a bounce or what? Bitcoin SegWit prices dropped below the $8000 mark. But what is more interesting to see is the trading volume of USDTethers. $5 Billion in volume is more than twice the total supply. Are we seeing a digital game of hot potato? U.S. Dollar Tethers fail to stand up to the rigors of scrutiny due to the fact that we must trust them. We must trust they have reserves in accordance with the tokens issued. A second issue is the connection to Bitfinex. A major exchange is the first to benefit from the printing of new tethers. If Bitfinex did nothing more than pawn off worthless tethers for Bitcoin SegWit they would have an amazing business model. This same business model is prevalent in the crypto ecosystem with a new token sale or ICO starting every day. Many people are parting with Ether, a currency that has a rational value, for ICO tokens whose value is unknown at best or pure hype at worst. Why would they do that? Maybe they are doing that because their currency went up in value by 5000% and they feel like gambling with a few coins. As anyone can witness the rise and fall of Bitcoin SegWit seems to echo across all blockchains. So to bring it back around: Tethers were printed to buy Bitcoin, creating a positive pressure on the back of vapors, the rise in Bitcoin spread to other chains and tokens as traders sought to diversify and hedge. This continued with each new tether grant. The price rise caught the attention of many around the world and real capitalization occurred where new volumes of fiat moved into the crypto space. This trend led to new all-time-highs and created a feedback loop of trading. The song had to end at some time and now seems just about as good as any. So how would you peg a fiat currency to a cryptocurrency? Ardorgate has a simple way of doing that but first let’s talk about Ardor. Developed by Jelurida Ardor is a parent/child blockchain ecosystem. Child chains have an independent blockchain tailored to the specific environment or protocol. These child chains can choose to attach or bundle a reference block into the Ardor Parent chain. Once done the child chains can prune their blocks limiting the digital footprint without compromising on security. Ardor and all child chains are proof-of-stake blockchains based off the NXT platform. Getting back to Ardorgate, the website allows users to deposit Euros and receive a digital token pegged to that Euro price. The token is called AEUR which is also the name of a child chain within the Ardor platform. The fiat money is handled by a bank service called mistertango and instructions show how to both deposit and withdrawal Euros. The instructions involve some copy and pasting so please be careful if you try it out. This is how a pegged fiat to cryptocurrency ought to work. There is transparency for the number of tokens created and the amount of Euros on deposit.
