This video is all about making money out of thin air. I'll be setting up mining apps on Mac, Windows, with a MacBook, a desktop, and using a graphics card, showing you how much you can earn and some of the ways of going about doing it.

Ok first up, mining on your Mac. On Mac I tried out a few apps including MacMiner, Zcash miner, Parity, MinerGate and ByteCoin wallet. Unfortunately I couldn't get any of them working with my GPU, for GPU mining which as you'll discover is far more profitable, you'll need to switch over to Windows which I'll cover in the next section.
The easiest mining app to use out of the lot was MinerGate, it already has pools you can easily join, lots of different coins you can mine and integrated wallets to collect the coins in.
To install simply head over to the website which you can find the link in the description below, download the version for the operating system you're currently using. For this I picked Mac. Once downloaded open up the dmg file and copy over the MinerGate app to your Applications folder.
By default it'll automatically pick the most profitable coin, which for me was Monero. You can also go ahead and benchmark your computer to see how good it is in the Benchmark tab, this is how my Mac Pro with an RX580 did, let me know how yours goes.
For Bytecoin its around 360,000 hashes per coin and as of today it's around 0.005 USD per coin.
On my MacBook Pro using it's i7 from 2006, with Bytecoin it gets around 80 hashs a second which means around 1 coin per 90 minutes, with only a 10watt increase while it's mining over just being on.
On my Mac Pro using a 6 core Xeon CPU from 2012, with Bytecoin it gets 150 hashes which means 1.5 coins per hour, however it eats up an extra 100watts over the computer just being idle.
Using a RX580 graphics card which we'll go over in the Windows section, using the default BIOS on you get 600 hashes a second which is about 6 coins per hour with a 60watt increase. You can also install a custom mining BIOS on the graphics card and yield up to 30% more performance however it will effect the graphics card's performance negatively in other areas such as gaming.
So if you are thinking of Mining on Mac, without a GPU the MacBook Pro will get you 20 Bytecoins a day, which is today worth only 10 cents, but with minimal electricity usage. With a GPU like the RX580 you can get you around 150 coins a day which is closer to a dollar. But, of course hopefully by the time you watch this video in the future these coins may be worth a lot more - fingers crossed.
As you collect coins they go into the wallet provided by MinerGate, you can convert them over to currency, however a small fee will be charged if you do this. You can also transfer them over to your own personal wallet which will live on your computer, to do this you can use a free app called Jaxx.
On Windows you can use MinerGate but now with the GPU unlocked if you have one. As you can see using the GPU gives you a massive performance jump over a CPU alone. With the RX580 graphics card giving a 4x bump in hashing speed using the same wattage. Note I'm using a free app called HWMonitor to monitor the power usage.
Speaking of gaming, one of the coolest things I found with MinerGate was that I could actually play games while mining.
On Windows you can also install an app called NiceHash. Now NiceHash isn't as user friendly as MinerGate but the rates are higher. Also it was recently hacked so bare that in mind when using that service. To install NiceHash you need to select which graphics card you're using. For me, I have an AMD graphics card so I installed the AMD version - which also works with a CPU.
Using an RX580 at 100W increase in power I was getting up to $3 a day, the Mac Pro's 6 core Xeon using 100W increase in power was getting me almost $1 a day, while the MacBook Pro's i7 would get me almost 20 cents a day with a 10W bump in power, making the RX580 the most efficient in mining.
Unlike MinerGate however NiceHash hits system resources a lot harder and I was unable to play games in the background.
