BITCOIN MANIA: Building the cryptocurrency test rig
Gamers can't game cause miners gotta mine.
If you can't fight em' why not try and join them? In this latest Hungry Gizmo adventure we are out on a mission to build a small scale mining rig to test the waters of the mining scene. what mistakes will we make? what future does the coin market have?
will we become overnight millionaires?
Find out today!
1080, 1060s, R7s, RXs, all … sold… out…
All of them…
Yep. Everyone is going crazy over cryptocoin again.
It's kind of neat, alternative digital currency -
But I don't get what the big deal is…
What the! Wooooooah!
Just look at that chart!
One trillion dollars!!!!!
One trillion dollars!!!!
And why is this… ethereum? What the heck is etheruem?
Does it matter? Look at that chart!!!
How do you get in on this cryptocurrency game? Investment? Mining? Money?
But I have no money……
And bitcoin is so volatile.
"hey, you think you could build a mining rig for us?"
-yeah, sure, but GPUs are hard to get. I don't even know if mining is profitable"
"just see what you can build us for 500€"
OK. Got it!
First I'll need a motherboard. Oh yeah, I've got my old desktop and CPU motherboard I was going to sell for 90€.
4 PCIe slots and 1 mini pcie slot.
But. Wait. I can only fit maybe two cards physically on this board. I mean, Graphics cards are huge.
Oh, but extenders exist…
But where do I put all the cards? Maybe I can set up multiple empty cases to run them into.
Or wait. What are these?
But they are so expensive…. 100€
Let's build our own from junk wood.
But wait. 10 meters of wood costs 5 bucks
So lets run to the hardware store.
Load up on wood.
And build a bitcoin mining rig!
And now for the GPUs….
The metropolitan area has none….
Like none. Nothing high performing.
But maybe I can convince some guys in norther lapland to mail me their cards. I need four cards.A GTX 670 65€
GTX 760 65€
GTX 580 50€
And wow that's huge.
What the heck? What am I doing wrong????
Oh… you need CUDA 6 and up cards to be profitable…..
Or 2gb AMD cards.
But hey, here's a 750 listed which does support CUDA 6
And is apparently profitable. -----meet me at 1600
I get to the place at 1600
------sorry. Sold it.
And that's where this story is on pause.
I'm in the middle of building an unprofitable 500€ mining rig.
That can effectively turn electricity into cryptocurrency and heat.
So what's the plan? Well. Try to find a profitable card for our 4th GPU.
Then, I feel like I should be able to sell the GTX cards for at least the same price I bought them…
So we can turn around and try to find a profitable card.
Time is ticking (ethereum 5 month article)
It is a bit of fun to get the whole setup going. And the fact that I'm able to get a solid 20-25% stable core speed increase out of my video cards in an open air design makes me thing I'm going to scrap my whole dremel out fans into the side of my PC idea and build a wooden open air case for my personal desktop.
Speaking of temperature drops. My new heatsink is here! Now we wait for some thermal paste.
Hey. Hope you enjoyed the vid. And here. Some crypto currency addresslook, I'm not going to beg my 100 loyal viewers to send cash. Nah, only millionaires can be beggars.
But hey, feel free to send anytype of coin you want, bitcoin, suomicoin, dogecoin, siacoin, litecoin, absolutely anything doesn't matter how worthless it is.
And that's it…
